Our Charism & Mission

Neighbors Helping Neighbors in the Face of Hardship

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a community of neighbors helping neighbors, rooted in Gospel values and quiet, everyday acts of love. Vincentians come from every walk of life and gather in local groups to listen, visit homes, and walk alongside people facing hardship, seeing in each person the face of Christ.

Through personal relationships, practical support, and a deep commitment to charity and justice, St. Vincent de Paul helps families find stability, dignity, and hope.

Quiet, Everyday Love

Rather than impersonal aid, Vincentians conduct home visits in pairs, sitting down with families at their kitchen tables to listen with deep empathy and respect.

Local Parish Conferences

Conferences are small, close-knit groups based in Catholic parishes and community centers. Members pray together, share fellowship, and pool resources.

Faith in Action

Founded by Blessed Frédéric Ozanam in 1833, the Society unites spirituality with direct practical action to relieve poverty and promote social justice.

The Invitation Movement

Why "Just Ask!"?

When asked why they haven’t joined a parish ministry, over 70% of churchgoers offer the same startling answer: “Nobody ever asked me.”

Bulletin notices and pulpit announcements often feel impersonal. But when a fellow parishioner, friend, or neighbor looks someone in the eye and says, “We see your heart, and our Vincentian family needs your gifts,” hearts open.

The Just Ask campaign calls every Vincentian member to invite just one person. If each active member invites one neighbor, our capacity to comfort families facing eviction and hunger instantly doubles.

500 Points in the National Incentive Program

Adopting the Just Ask campaign as a Conference and asking each member to invite one person earns your team 500 points toward your 2026/2027 tier recognition!

Inviting a Fellow Parishioner

Suggested Context: After Sunday Mass, coffee hour, or parish committee meeting

1. Warm Opening Line:

“Hi Sarah, I loved seeing you at Mass today! I’ve been meaning to ask you something because you always bring such warmth to our parish.”

2. Key Points to Highlight:

Share one brief story of a recent neighbor helped (food, utility bill, or prayer).
Explain that visits are done in pairs and you never serve alone.
Mention that meetings are focused on prayer, fellowship, and practical aid.

3. Gentle Closing Invitation:

“Would you be open to coming to our next 45-minute meeting just to see what we do? No commitment at all—just come have coffee with us.”
